Breaking Ground: Women Pioneers in Chandigarh’s Education Landscape

From establishing educational institutions to championing gender equality in academia, these women have left an indelible mark on Women Pioneers in Chandigarh’s Education Landscape. Dr. Kavita Sharma

Dr. Kavita Sharma is resident of Rajpura, Punjab, her mother Smt. Shobha Kumari and father Mr. Satish Chander both were Govt. Employees. Dr Kavita Sharma born in simple family of loveable parents who are her role models and having siblings three sisters and one brother. Her husband Dr.Sachin Sharma is working as Dean Student Welfare in renowned Institute of Punjab. By Profession she is Professor in University School of Business, Chandigarh University, Mohali with MBA, MFC masters degree from Punjabi University Patiala, M.Phill, UGC NET Qualified and Doctorate in Management. She was awarded with National Doctoral Fellowship  of AICTE for Doctorate degree in Management from IKGPTU, Jalandhar.

She is serving the society on the position of Union Territory President of WICCI Chandigarh SME & MSME Council of Women Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. She is active resource person of Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises – Development Institute , Ludhiana. She is (Advance Level) Institutional Innovation Ambassador of Ministry of Education. She Contributed 25 Research Paper Publication in renowned Journals, she is Author of Book on Business Finance. She also contributed chapters in three books and an article to her credit. She has attended & participated in National, International Conferences,  Seminars,  Workshops and Faculty Development Programs. She guided and mentored 12 startups. She was organizer of many events for Women Entrepreneurs under Atam Nirbhar Bharat Campaign. She worked as Head & Associate Professor in Department of Business Administration at RIMT-IET, Mandi Gobindgarh and as Head of School of Management Studies & Professor in CT, University Ludhiana, Punjab. Currently working as Professor in Finance in USB MBA Chandigarh University, Mohali.

She wanted to become a teacher as Teaching is so noble profession and gives her a sense that she is making the world a better place. She used the creative and innovative pedagogies for teaching the students . In 2019 she submitted the zero cost innovative teaching proposal to Aurobindo society and got an appreciation award by ZIIEI. She has served at the position of Vice President of the IIC Cell in one of the renowned organization. There she organized number of events for the budding entrepreneurs. She Organized an Business Plan competition for showcasing the Innovative Ideas of her students named as ShowBiz several times. It helped the students to learn how to develop new and innovative ideas. They understand how to do identify the business idea, co founder for their proposal and to do the bootstrapping and pitching of the business plan in an impressive way so that the  startup would attract new funding for their  proposals.

In one of the experience during the Industrial visit to Baddi, Himachal Pradesh in the unit of corrugated boxes her Student asked the owner of that unit that if any challenge faced by them till now. Surprisingly the owner told us that two of the labour had lost their hands due to the accident happened on machine which is used to shut down automatically at designated time. The labour working on that machine were not able to identify the correct time to get their hand out before they place the box material and the machine may shut down and because of this the accident happened. After this visit the same student came to her and told her that he has finded out solution for that unit owner where they had gone for an industrial visit. He designed a machine of same features as of the old machine had and same working with sensors and even in the budget of the owner of unit. With the use of the machine designed by the student the workers life is more secure and will safeguard it from accidents. After this the student started his own unit with 3D printers to make the prototypes for the industry people. This incidence motivated me to work more in identifying new challenges in the industry and providing them the solutions.

She is an active member in this community and serve as the Institutional Innovation Ambassador of Ministry of Education. she mentored the young promising entrepreneurs for the last 18 years. Being a faculty she witnessed the necessity of transformation so she enhanced her experience in learning the challenges faced by entrepreneurs and later on it become the part of her mentoring to her mentees in the Incubation Centers. Once her son when he was of 6 months got hospitalized in NICU and then she had bitter experience when she noticed that there was current in his incubator machine where he was kept. She called the nurse and asked her to check the same and the nurse first denied as its not possible but later she admitted that actually there was current in the incubator and she called the concerned person and asked them to mend it. Dr.Kavita discussed this idea with one of her mentees and her mentee added an sensor in the incubator machine so that  NICU doctors and nurses may detect either it is safe or not for infants from current or shock. This invention may helps the nursery wings in the hospitals to safeguard the little kids.

As a Union Territory President of WICCI Chandigarh SME & MSME Council of Women Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. She organized workshops of the entrepreneurs and webinars for the would be entrepreneurs to sensitise the awareness among the participants as it is  one of the most helpful strategies for developing as an entrepreneur is to learn directly from an experienced mentor.  Entrepreneurs that are new to the game will often have a lot questions and the Internet won’t always have the answer. Being a Mentor she not only answer questions but helped mentees with useful insights & tips. As a mentor she contributed to the resilience of others by steering them toward focusing on responsibility and goals. She was Awardee of Women’s Conclave and Awards 2021 for Best Entrepreneurship Mentor held on 19th Jan  2021. She also got the Indian Women Awards, 2021 for Super Women Award on 4th December 2021. I CAN Foundation selected her for the most coveted women award of our nation.

She has selected among the 100 Inspirational Women of the Year 2021 for the ‘Global Women Inspiration Awards 2021’on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The award is conferred on the basis of achievements and contribution towards the development of the nation and society. As they considered her to be a role model for the women. she also received an appreciation from MSME-DI, Ludhiana for her contribution in Incubation and organizing Entrepreneurship Development Programmes and Management Development Programme. Balancing mentor’s life and profession  is hard enough, but a dedicated mind and devotion towards your goal can steer you in the right direction. She is still working on the path to serve the society with mentorship, dedication and innovative ideas. As she do believes that if we want to change the society then transform yourself and transform the world.

 

Dr. Kamakshi Malik

Dr. Kamakshi Malik is an educator, mentor, and trainer who is passionate about empowering individuals to reach their full potential. With her experience as a resource person with CEC UGC, New Delhi, she is a respected voice in the field of human resource management and have over 70 lectures live telecast on Doordarshan. She has successfully conducted numerous online and offline training and mentoring sessions on, Interpersonal skills, Leadership skills etc. At Institutes of repute like UIPS, Panjab University, Chutkara University , Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Shirpur to name a few.

As a mentor with Startup India (Government of India Initiative) and the Startup Accelerator Chamber of Commerce, (Government of Haryana initiative) she is passionately training entrepreneurs at various levels with a special focus on women entrepreneurs. In addition, she is also the President of the Women’s Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Chandigarh Chapter, Empathy and emotional well-being council. She advocates the importance of empathy in creating a healthy and productive work environment, through webinars and lectures. Closely associated with women entrepreneurs pan India. A speaker and awardee at the global edition of Women’s Economic Forum, 2022 she has received the ‘Exceptional Women of Excellence’ award for her vision to increase female labour force participation rate through empathetic strategies at workplaces. A sought-after speaker at various national and international events, open mics, and academic conferences, she is passionate to empower youth especially women and create a better world.

Dr. Renu Vij

Prof. (Dr.) Renu Vij, is an Educator working as Professor in Chandigarh University Mohali .Her contribution in Industry and academics plays a significant role. Through her research on numerous themes connected to business administration and management studies during the past two decades, she has made a significant societal contribution to the education and empowerment of women. Everyone in our community should be grateful for her commitment to ensuring access to high-quality educational opportunities for everyone. She holds a doctorate in occupational stress and is a Certified trained psycho-metrician and rewire of coding.

She serves on other university boards of studies as well. In contrast, she has published a lot and reviews for a few periodicals. Additionally, she has authored three books and edited one. She has given numerous talks at MHRD sessions, AICTE FDPs, HRDC Faculty-oriented Programmes, UNESCO Project webinars, Government Colleges, and hands-on workshops on topics like the framing of MOOC courses, National Education Policy 20 by Central government through Commerce associations in India , AI, E-Classroom Framework Teaching Pedagogy, and Cooperative Teaching Strategies.

THOUGHTS AND BELIEFS

Her prophet has been causing a stir. This lady social contributor is making a difference in people’s lives by focusing on providing information and skill training programs for women that are convenient as well as practical for them throughout the area. She takes a multifaceted approach to fostering holistic development, making sure that no one is excluded from educational chances. Dr. Renu is actively engaged in social service, serving Vikshit Bharat under the leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state. Her contributions are well recognized, particularly in legal rights for citizens and providing free legal services for issues specific to senior citizens. She served for youth , women and kids of  slum areas in Tricity for their education, hygiene issues, camps for rights , right of education.

Woman Social Contributor Educates on Nature Therapy and Positive Energy Content – She is a woman with a keen interest in plantation and has contributed to society by healing specific ailments such as diabetes, cancer, Vit D, High BP etc. Her active participation and connect with citizen through session in gurudwaras, temples , community centre changes mindset of people. With her focus on empowering women with knowledge as well as skill training programs that are tailored to their feasibility as well as convenience, this woman social contributor is changing lives across the region. Her diverse approach toward overall holistic development ensures no one gets left behind when it comes to educational opportunities. She is an international speaker serves in various countries on assessment in education with focus on quality parameters.

She also focused on educating senior citizens about the use of plants and leaves for getting rid of lifestyle diseases. Her unique approach has been met with enthralling results, as it combines human behavior, natural beauty, and a creative eye to create something truly special. Whether you are looking for an innovative way to spruce up your home or office environment or just want some inspiration from Mother Nature herself – this woman’s work will not disappoint.

Dr. Renu’s efforts in advancing women’s empowerment, sustainable development, and psychotherapy have earned her numerous honors and awards. She has been recognized for her work not only in uplifting women but also in benefiting the wider community. Dr. Renu’s commitment to environmental conservation and human welfare is evident in her motto, “5R Save NATURE SOUL, SAVE MANKIND.”

She has represented India on international platforms, sharing her unique theories on Outcome-based Education. Dr. Renu is a renowned speaker, frequently invited to present at conferences and institutions worldwide. Her contributions to the Act of Gratitude School are noteworthy, particularly for her work with children from underprivileged backgrounds, providing them with educational opportunities in a green environment on weekends.

In addition to her work with children, Dr.Renu has also made significant contributions to senior citizens through her initiative “KIND EAR FOR YOU,” where she dedicates her time to listening to and supporting seniors facing loneliness and other challenges.
