The Coronavirus got its biggest spike in a single day. On Friday India has recorded 1,752 fresh cases and took the total number of infected people beyond, 24,000 even as double the rate of the diseases has been improved to 10 days from 7.5 which had reported earlier this week, according to the Health Ministry.
The Director of the National Center for Disease Control SK Singh said at a daily media briefing that around 9.45 lakh suspected coronavirus cases have been under the surveillance and their samples have been collected upon the detection of symptoms of the infection.
VK Paul, the chairman of an empowered group on the Covid-19 and Niti Ayog member, said India would have recorded around one lakh cases of the infection by now if the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had not taken the time step and enforced a nationwide lockdown from March 25.
The officials said that the outbreak of the pandemic has been under control in India because of a robust surveillance network along with the implementation of the lockdown and other containment measures.
Maharashtra had reported a high number of 778 new infections out of the total 1752 new cases, followed by Gujarat with 217 cases and Madhya Pradesh with 157 new cases, as per the government data. Previously the highest single-day increase of Infection was on April 20. 1540 new cases had been reported on this day. Although, India has noted its first coronavirus case on January 30.
Paul also said that the lockdown has been effective in slowing down the rate of the spread of the deadly infection that the doubling rate now stands at 10 days. He said that there is no need to fear about the hidden spike in cases as the disease is under control. If we go back to March 21, the cases were doubling in around three days. But Janta Curfew had taken an important turn which was imposed on March 23, the direction changed and the doubling rate increased to five days.
“By then, we had already put in place travel restrictions and had created an environment of social distances. There were some disturbances in between which led to some setbacks. But from April 6 again, the doubling time started improving,” he said.
Although, 80 districts from 23 states and union territories have not reported any new cases since the last 14 days. Until now, 4,813 people have been recovered from the infection.
