Doda, May 2:
Since the government has extended the lock down in the country for another two weeks, people in hilly areas of Chenab valley are suffering due to unavailability of any work and injustice being meted out to them by authorities at all level.
People living in one-room houses, made up of mud and stones, are crying for the help from government but there is nobody to listen.
One such poor woman shared her ordeal of living in the times of lock down enforced due to COVID-19 threat. Her muddy house, handicapped son, empty utensils and an Above Poverty Line (APL) ration card are enough for a person to feel how her life is going through.

“I am managing the affairs of my home without the help of husband, who is stuck outside J&K, where he had gone for labour, due to the lock down. I have to look after my handicapped son, other children and myself and has got no help from administration so far,” said Shafiqa Begum, a resident of Bagla area of district, 35 kilometres from Doda town.
The biggest problem for the woman at present is of getting the ration without having money with her. Despite being from the downtrodden society and amongst poorest of the poor, she falls in APL category.
“I am a heart patient and my son is handicapped. I have to bring medicines from Jammu but since lock down is in place, I don’t get medicines. Government should also provide me free medicines,” Shafiqa Begum added.
