Five Famous Gurudwaras in Sultanpur Lodhi

Sultanpur Lodhi in Punjab is one such place where Guru Nanak Dev Ji had spent 14 years 9 months and 13 days of his life. You will definitely feel blessed. Guru Nanak Dev Ji used to work here. Sultanpur is the most ancient city in India which was established in the 1st century. Sultanpur Lodhi was a prominent place for meditation. Buddhism was at its height in Sultanpur Lodhi during that period. Later when Mahmud of Ghazni invaded the city he ordered to burn the city to ashes, as it was a place of Hindu Buddhism.

Sultanpur Lodhi is a city in Punjab which is the most related to Guru Ji. There are many prominent historical Gurudwaras at Sultanpur Lodhi dedicated to Guru Nanak Dev Ji and also his sister Bebe Nanki Ji.

1. Gurudwara Ber Sahib

Ber Sahib is the place where Guru Nanak Dev Ji used to meditate under a Ber tree after his morning ablution in the Kali Bein. This is still present in the Gurudwara, which is green. Devotees sit under the tree and listen to kirtan. Guru Nanak had direct communication with the Divine. One morning while doing his morning ablutions, Guru Ji disappeared in the Bein and reappeared at a place 2 km away upstream. The first words he uttered were Hindu and Musalman, both are equal.

2. Gurudwara Shree Kothari Sahib

While Guruji working for the Nawab, some people who were not happy with him made a complaint to the Nawab that he was stealing from the store’s inventory. Guruji on the orders of Nawab was temporarily jailed at this place but when the whole inventory was checked he apologized profusely and offered a promotion which was declined by Guruji.

3. Gurudwara Shree Hatt Sahib

Gurudwara Sri Hatt Sahib, Sultanpur Lodhi, South of the old fortresslike serai, marks the spot where Guru Nanak worked as the custodian of stores under the Nawab Daulat Khan’s provision

The building comprises a hall.  Above the sanctum are a square room and a lotus dome topped by a gold plated finial. Thirteen polished stones believed to be the weights used by Guru Nanak are on display in a glass cabinet.

4. Gurudwara Shree Antarymata

While staying at Sultanpur Lodhi, one day Guruji was asked by a Muslim whether he was guru Hindu or Muslim? To this, he replied that he was common to all of them. Then they asked guru Ji to offer namaz at a nearby mosque, Guruji went there and while everyone was offering Namaz, Guru Ji stood straight. Everyone who saw this got very angry and asked Guru Ji why he didn’t bow down during the namaz. Guruji said that no one was truly offering prayers.

Everyone was only physically present not mentally, so was he. Everyone was surprised by this and said that he has divine powers.

5. Gurudwara Shree Bebe Nanki Ji

This sacred place was the residence of Bibe Nanaki Ji.  Gurudwara Shree Bebe Nanki Ji

Was built during the 1970s in her memory. The actual old building where Bedi Nanaki is believed to have lived with her family and with her husband Jai Ram.
