Under Essential Services Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, (JNPT) will function in the wake of COVID 19-

As per the directives received from the Ministry of Shipping, Govt. of India, the port has been declared as the essential services, for maintenance of supply chain link within the country. Also, it is pertinent to mention that Section I (a) (iv) of the Essential Services Maintenance Act, covers all Port related activities as Essential Services.

It is also learned that the Commissioner, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, vide Notification No.: MGC/A/2873 dated 17.03.2020, has declared the Port as an Essential Services.

As the Port has been declared as essential services, it is imperative to run the port operations round the clock in order to maintain the strong supply chain link within the port ecosystem. For this purpose, the availability becomes essential not only of the port officials/employees and the employees of other terminal operators, but also the services of the CFS operators, exporters, importers, Customs House Agents(CHAs), Train operators and Transporters for running the port operations and other port-related activities round the clock. This is necessary to maintain the supply chain.

Since many of the JNPT officers/employees and employees of agencies ancillary to port activities, as mentioned above reside in the City of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Panvel, Uran, Thane, etc and they have been provided with the bus services for ferrying them to and from JNPT as per their work shifts.

JNPT and other private terminal operators namely GTI, NSICT, NSIGT and BMCT have engaged the buses, trailers and other motor vehicles on hire/contract from various transport operators for commuting staff. In order to ensure the timely movement of buses to and from JNPT, it is decided to display the boards mentioning “Essential Service Duty” on each bus ferrying officials/employees and also the employees of the abovementioned agencies.
