Chandigarh, May 11– Haryana Transport Minister, Sh. Mool Chand Sharma said that the Haryana State Pollution Control Board should take strict action against those who release polluted water in the Agra-Gurugram Canal. He emphasized that the people of Faridabad, Palwal, Gurugram and Mewat are facing difficulty due to problem of polluted water in this Canal. He elaborated that everyone should shoulder the responsibility in this regard so as to curtail water pollution in the Canal. Sh. Mool Chand Sharma was presiding over a meeting of the Committee constituted to tackle the problem of polluted water in Agra-Gurugram Canal held at Haryana Niwas on Wednesday.

During this meeting, Sh. Mool Chand Sharma said that there is a rise in diseases in the areas as Faridabad, Palwal, Gurugram and Mewat where the polluted water of Agra-Gurugram Canal is released. The Haryana State Pollution Control Board should identify the places from where the polluted water is being released into this Canal and strict action should be taken against those responsible for it. The Transport Minister also instructed the Irrigation Department that the information of places where polluted water is released should be immediately provided to the Pollution Control Board so that a case can be registered against the persons concerned.

Water being put by industries in the Canal will also be controlled, notices will be issued soon

Sh. Mool Chand Sharma said that some industries adjoining the Agra-Gurugram Canal are also releasing polluted water. Such industries should be issued a notice by the Pollution Control Board immediately to stop this practice and they should also be given some time to re-use this water after being treated with STP.

Municipal Corporation should also release water after treating it with STP

The Transport Minister said that in some districts, the Municipal Corporation is also releasing polluted water into the Agra-Gurugram Canal. Pollution Control Board should also send notices to such Municipal Corporations and they should also ensure that water is released into this Canal only after it has been treated. Along with this, there are complaints of some people releasing polluted water in the Gonchi Canal late at night. This canal should be monitored by using drones etc. and those who do so should be abstained from doing so by taking strict action.

There will also be talks with Delhi on pollution

The Transport Minister, Sh. Mool Chand Sharma said that polluted water is also being released by Delhi in Agra-Gurugram Canal. Due to this also the Canal is getting polluted as well. A meeting of the Chief Secretaries of Delhi and Haryana will be held soon in this regard. If this does not resolve the problem, then a meeting will be held at the Chief Minister’s level to address the issue.

Public Health Department will also be included in the Committee

Transport Minister, Sh. Mool Chand Sharma said that Public Health Department would also be included in this Committee. He added that the work to oversee how much polluted water is being released in this Canal and which technology should be used to decrease it will be done by the Public Health Department.

Seema Trikha, MLA Tigaon, Sh. Rajesh Nagar, NIT, Faridabad MLA Sh. Neeraj Sharma, Prithla MLA Sh. Nayan Pal Rawat, Hathin MLA Sh. Praveen Dagar, Hodal MLA Sh. Jagdish Nayar, Palwal MLA Sh. Deepak Mangla also gave their suggestions. Along with them Additional Chief Secretary, Irrigation, Sh. Devender Singh, Sh. Apoorva Kumar Singh, Chairman of Haryana State Pollution Control Board Sh. P. Raghavendra Rao, Member Secretary Sh. S. Narayanan and other senior officers were also present.
