World Wetlands Day will be observed on February 2, 2022 at Sultanpur National Park located in Gurugram, Haryana. Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal will also participate in this programme.

Chandigarh, February 1 – World Wetlands Day will be observed on February 2, 2022 at Sultanpur National Park located in Gurugram, Haryana. Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal will also participate in this programme. It will be chaired by the Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Sh. Bhupender Yadav. The programme will be conducted jointly in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Haryana Government.
Giving further information in this regard, an official spokesperson said that Haryana Pond and Waste Water Management Authority (HPWWMA) is working for restoration and rejuvenation of all water bodies/lakes/ponds in the state for which World Wetlands Day is observed. On this occasion, Haryana Pond and Waste Water Management Authority (HPWWMA) will display works related to restoration of ponds through posters and models. Along with this, through power-point presentation and short documentary, the works and achievements of the Authority since its inception will also be presented.
The spokesperson said Haryana Pond and Waste Water Management Authority (HPWWMA) was notified on September 23, 2018. Since its inception the Authority has been working to restore the waste water flowing into the ponds, to rejuvenate the ponds as well as to treat and manage them. The authority has collected data of 18,751 ponds and made it available through Pond Data Management System (PDMM) software.
The spokesperson said that the waste water flowing into the ponds is being treated through wetland techniques so that these ponds can be used for fish farming, cattle and micro irrigation. Desilting of ponds will conserve water and improve ground water level and prevent water scarcity.
Under the guidance of Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal, the Authority has prepared a plan for rejuvenation/revival of all polluted ponds including overflowing ponds in the financial year under Phase II and Phase III respectively.
The spokesperson further said that out of total 1,940 polluted ponds in 756 villages under Phase II, architectural working drawings of 860 ponds in 402 villages have already been issued. The remaining drawings will be issued by August 30, 2022. Work for 102 ponds has been allotted and work on 80 ponds has been started. Work on 105 ponds is likely to start by March 2022. Under the third phase i.e. in the financial year 2022-23, 2552 polluted ponds of 1,041 villages have been planned. All architecture working drawings will be issued by October 31, 2022. Work on 100 ponds is likely to start by March 2022.
The  spokesperson  said that the Authority is undertaking geo-mapping and geo-tagging of all water bodies on State Government lands through HARSAC. HARSAC has done geo-mapping of 37,353 water bodies/ponds through satellite, out of which geo-tagging has been done for 24,500 water bodies/ponds.
