Canal Patwari reinstated after timely intervention of Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission

Chandigarh, August 25:

With the timely intervention of the Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes, the Canal Patwari working under the Faridkot Canal Division has been reinstated within a month of filing complaint with the Commission.

Divulging more, Chairperson Mrs. Tejinder Kaur informed that the complainant Canal Patwari Kamlesh Kanta, resident of Faridkot had lodged a complaint on July 22, 2021, which reads that she was working as a Record Keeper in Faridkot Canal Division. With an attempt to destroy her career, a FIR was lodged against her. Although she was found innocent during the police investigation, she was still not being allowed to join the government job.

The chairperson said that taking immediate action on the matter, a report was sought from the department within 10 days. “On the basis of the complaint, the Commission had shot a letter to the Chief Engineer Canals-1, Water Resources Department, Punjab stating that when a Scheduled Caste employee is wrongly implicated in such a case, in which he/she may be punished then the person trying to falsely implicate, will be dealt under SC/ST Act. Similarly, the department can also file a case against the officer under SC/ST Act for deliberately delaying the matter charging him with negligence in duty”, she said, adding that therefore, the matter should be considered in the light of the above criteria. If a legal opinion is necessary, it should also be obtained through a special officer as the matter has already been unnecessarily delayed. The Commission directed, the complete report be submitted in person by the Gazetted Officer on or before August 25, 2021 after taking appropriate action in the case.

The Chairperson further said that in the letter received from the Executive Engineer, Faridkot Canal Division, it was stated that Canal Patwari Kamlesh Kanta was reinstate on August 20, 2021 after obtaining report from the office of SSP Faridkot about the latest status of the FIR against her, which found Canal Patwari innocent.
