-154 CCTV cameras to keep vigil on criminal activities in SAS Nagar’s Rural belt

SAS NAGAR/CHANDIGARH, March 12:

Women, Children and Senior Citizens in Punjab can now lodge their grievances with the Police in a citizen friendly manner as the Punjab Police have established dedicated ‘SAANJH Shakti Helpdesks’ in all the SAAJNH Kendras, located in close vicinity to the Police Stations across the state, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Dinkar Gupta.

DGP Gupta, who was here in SAS Nagar on Friday, to inaugurate some of these  prestigious projects, including Police Station Phase 11 building and newly established ‘SAANJH Shakti Helpdesk’ at SAANJH Kendra here said that the special emphasis was being laid to provide a safe and conducive environment to the vulnerable sections of the society so that they can share their issues and concerns with the Police without any hesitation. The DGP was accompanied by Chairman and Managing Director of Punjab Police Housing Corporation (PPHC) MK Tiwari, IPS.

Notably, the Chief Minister Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh had launched the Punjab Police’s SAANJH Shakti Helpdesks and ‘181’ non-emergency Helpline exclusively for the Women, Children and Senior Citizens to mark the International Women’s Day on March 8.

The DGP also virtually inaugurated the Rural Closed Circuits Television (CCTV) project under which 154 CCTV Cameras, worth Rs 1 crore installed at strategically important points in the Rural belt of the district for the crime detection and citizens’ safety.

After inaugurating the projects, Gupta presented Commendation Certificates to 14 Police officials, who have registered maximum complaints on the Punjab Police Mahila Mittar (PPMM) portal. He also honoured wards of seven Police personnel who have excelled in sports and academics besides felicitating the best performing support staff.

DGP Dinkar Gupta, while taking the round of the newly constructed Police Station building, established at one acre land with the cost of Rs 2 crores said that this two storey Police Station building comprises of SHO Room, Munshi Room, Lock Ups, Armoury, Malkhana & Waiting Area for public at Ground floor, while, the first floor has IO’s Rooms, Residential portion, including barracks for NGOs, besides the Dining/Kitchen facility.

He also presented essentials including Water Cooler, Water Filter, Refrigerator etc for the newly constructed Police Station.

The DGP also commended SAS Nagar Police for launching an innovative and modern software for tenant verification and suspect identification based on Artificial Intelligence. He asked the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Satinder Singh to implement this idea so that people living at rented accommodations here could register themselves easily.

Meanwhile, the ADGP Community Affairs Division and Women & Child Affairs Gurpreet Kaur Deo also inaugurated the Child Friendly Police Station in Sohana. This is the second such Police Station in the state opened by the Punjab Police in a joint initiative with NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan. The first such Police Station has been successfully functioning at Mandi Gobindgarh in Fatehgarh Sahib since July 2020. The purpose of these Police Stations was to provide a children-friendly environment to children visiting the Police Stations, ADGP Deo said.

On the occasion, Chairman and members of the Child Welfare Committee SAS Nagar, District and Sessions Judge (Retd) Jagroop Singh and representatives of NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan were also present.
