Five Best Video Games to be played during lockdown
Around the globe, people’s lives have been turned upside down by social distancing measures and even more stringent lockdowns put in place to slow the spread of the coronavirus. Whether you’re self-isolating, working from home or have unfortunately been let go by your work, video games are proving to be a safe haven to a lot of people.
If you’re an Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, PC or mobile player, we’ve got you covered here with the best games for each console that you can sink countless hours into, in an effort to distract yourselves or keep in touch with other like-minded people. Video games transport us into different worlds and bring us together in ways other mediums can’t. And right now — facing the uncertainties, terror, loneliness, and boredom of a deadly pandemic — that’s exactly what we all need.
- Persona 4 Golden
While this technically is a PSP Vita game, it deserves to be on this because it offers some of the most impactful game play in any JRPG. P4 Golden is perhaps the happiest game about murder ever made, and as you work with your new best friends for life, you’ll maintain social links to grow stronger in the turn-based battle system and dungeon crawling. You’re also trying to solve a string of murders in the small and charming Japanese town of Inaba. The characters in-game will feel like real people and once it’s all said and done, the emotional depth and weight in P4 makes it akin to missing your real-life friends. The game is, simply, a masterpiece that will change your life.
- Minecraft
Minecraft is the gift that keeps on giving. You’re free to create absolutely anything you want and express yourself in every which way possible. It’s perfect with friends to create your own private server to live out your best virtual lives and stay social together or just to scratch an itch to be creative – Minecraft provides a potent escape from reality.
- Call Of Duty: Warzone
No multiplayer listicle is complete without Call Of Duty, whatever the version. Latest addition Warzone features the classic Call Of Duty battle rezz staples such as weapon looting and a vast player pool so there’s no limits to the number of comrades you can team up with. If you’re not ready for Warzone just yet, we would recommend Modern Warfare — of which Warzone is a part, but does not require a purchase in order to play Warzone. Modern Warfare is known for being a landmark in the franchise, offering multiple reviving options, item-weapon combinations, and stunning graphics.
- Pokémon Go
Pokémon Go created a revolutionary new genre of games, as an augmented reality mobile game that lets you catch Pokémon that appear in the real world through your phone. What made it so wonderful and different at first, requiring people to go out into the real world and interact, is also unfortunately the antithesis to social-distancing. But developer Niantic created a clever work around with features that allow people to keep playing from home. It’s introduced all sorts of new gameplay elements, and you love to see a company acting quickly and responsibly to the needs of a pandemic.
- Super Mario Maker-2
Much like Dreams on PS4, the universe of Super Mario Maker 2 is ever-expanding. From the more pleasant, laid back experiences, to the torturously near-impossible levels of brain-bending complexity.
Mario Maker 2 is a lively community of gamers and creators and new levels are created on a daily basis!
