Every year on 26 June, the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. It is a United Nations International Day against drug abuse and the illegal drug trade. The date 26 June has been decided in 1989 as it has been commemorated Lin Zexu’s dismantling of the opium trade in Humen, Guangdong, ending on June 25 1839 right before the first opium war in China. Though the day has been observed by the General Assembly Resolution 42/112 of 7 December 1987.
Usually, on this day several campaigns, rallies, poster designing, and many more other programs are being conducted. It is referred to as Anti-Drug campaigns as 6/26, a play on Marijuana smokers 4/20 day to celebrate cannabis. According to the UN’s World Drug Report, there are around US$322 billion of illegal trade in a year.
