World Music Day 2023 Wishes – World Music Day or Fete de la Musique is a unique annual celebration of music, which takes place on June 21. It is also known as Music Day or Make Music Day. On this day, usually young and amateur musicians are encouraged to perform. World Music Day allows anyone to play their favorite instruments in neighborhood parks and open spaces for people to enjoy. Music lovers organize free concerts and other musical events. World Music Day often coincides with the Summer Solstice, another great day for feasts and festivities. 

Who started World Music Day?

In 1982, the first World Music Day was celebrated on Summer Solstice in France. The then French Minister of Culture, Jack Lange was the person who started Fete de la Musique in Paris. Another well-known music composer Maurice Fleuret was also instrumental in starting a day for celebrating music. Music Day later became popular in all countries around the world.

How is World Music Day celebrated?

After the first Music Day celebrations in Paris, the festival became an international phenomenon. India, Italy, Greece, Russia, Australia, Peru, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, Canada, the United States, the UK, Japan, China, Malaysia and few other countries celebrate World Music Day. New musicians, as well as veterans, are out on the streets to “make music”.

On World Music Day free concerts are a must so that music is accessible to all. On this day, the streets of Paris are awash with the sound of every kind of music in the air. Paris and other places in France see a high footfall of tourists during Fete de la Musique. Fests, parades, fairs, feasts and dance parties give an eclectic flavor to Music Day.

World Music Day or Fete de la Musique is to provide as many free concerts as possible throughout the day. Musicians perform in public areas to show their love for music, thus encouraging many more young people to participate in such concerts. It is incredible to see these concerts on the streets and music played on the streets. It is a surreal experience.

In the United States itself, around 82 cities are participating in the World Music Day activities. All kinds of music are played, Classical, Pop, Jazz, Rap and Instrumental, thus displaying the many music variants. Around 130 countries worldwide take part in the activities of World Music Day. Free Concerts are staged on the streets of more than 1000 cities, making music easily accessible to the public.

There is nothing better in this world like the sound of your favourite song coming on. It immediately starts to heal the situation and makes you feel relaxed. In short, International Music Day celebrates music in all its forms and the impact it has had on the human spirit!

World Music Day 2022 Theme & Celebration

Since the year of inception, The first Fete de la Musique held in the city of Paris, and it turned out to be a humongous success. The year 1985 was commended as the European year of music. In the year 1997, the European Music charter party was signed in Budapest, encouraging countries outside Europe to join the World Music Day celebrations annually.

In India also there are several music concerts organized as a part of the World Music Day celebration. In India, music is a form of worship. There were many eminent poets and musicians that Indian history boasts off. In the year 2019, In India Exchange4Media and Loudest. hosted an annual music conference, Music Inc. The theme for this year was “Music on the intersections.”

In the year 2019, International Yoga Day also was celebrated on the same day as World Music day. Practice yoga with a beautiful melody in the background to achieve that tranquility. Both Amateur and professional music artists stage the concerts on this day. So if you are a music enthusiast or a musician yourself, go all out there and soak in the essence of music.
