In a current announcement by AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education) it has been declared that in the same institute, the MBA (Master of Business Administration) course and PGDM (Postgraduate Diploma in Management) course cannot be offered simultaneously.
Now the Universities have to choose between an MBA course and the PGDM course. A senior officer of AICTE said that over a period of time, the deemed to be universities have been added the PGDM course under the banner of ‘Management Programme’ in contravention of norms according to the AICTE Regulations, 2020, conducting PGDM and MBA courses in the same institution is not permissible. The PGDM courses can be run by the standalone institutions, which are neither universities nor affiliated to any of the university, as said by the HRD Ministry.
The institutes which are affiliated to the universities have the option that they either can convert the PGDM courses into the corresponding MBA courses with the respective university affiliation or can convert all the MBA course into the PGDM courses.
It should be noted that candidates having an MBA degree are eligible for Ph.D. and can persue research or doctoral studies that a PGDM candidate cannot persue.
