Ensuring protection of human rights, Chairperson Haryana Human Rights Commission, Mr. Justice (Retd) S.K. Mittal today during a press conference said that ‘Violation of fundamental rights is violation of human rights’.

  • Chandigarh, February 24 – Ensuring protection of human rights, Chairperson Haryana Human Rights Commission, Mr. Justice (Retd) S.K. Mittal today during a press conference said that ‘Violation of fundamental rights is violation of human rights’.
  • Elaborating on it he said that the Commission takes cognizance on receipt of complaints in such cases. During the last one year, around 3,218 cases were settled by the Commission of which in 38 cases the Commission had taken suo motu cognizance and compensation of Rs 56.94 lakh was given to the victims.
  • This information was given by Justice Sh. S.K. Mittal while addressing the press conference in the office of the Haryana State Human Rights Commission here today. Both the members of the Commission Mr. Justice K.C. Puri and Sh. Deep Bhatia and Secretary of the Commission Sh. Wazir Singh Goyat were also present there during the press conference.
  • He said that to create awareness about the Human Rights Commission to the people, notice boards will be displayed at public offices soon, on which information about Human Rights will be displayed.
  • Speaking on the compliance of recommendations made by the Commission, Justice Mittal said that the State Government had already complied with majority of recommendations made by the Commission and about 95 per cent of the recommendations are complied with. He further added that the Commission was satisfied with the compliance of the State Government. On the Criminal Justice System he said though the country became independent 70 years ago but it is yet to formulate a systematic criminal justice system at the administrative level. He said that the main objective of the Human Rights Commission is to render a helping hand to the common people.
  • He informed that in addition to their office in Chandigarh, Haryana Human Rights Commission, hear complaints in Gurugram also for two days in a month i.e. on the first Monday and Friday of the second week where complaints pertaining to six districts of South Haryana namely Gurugram, Faridabad, Palwal, Mahendragarh Rewari and Nuh districts are heard.
  • He said that the Commission also regularly inspects the Jails regarding the basic amenities like water, electricity, food and medicine being provided to the inmates. He said that the Commission has inspected Jails in Gurugram, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar, Rewari and Faridabad.
  • He said that 2,828 cases were disposed of by the Inquiry Wing of the Commission and a decision was pronounced in 131 of the 132 complaints received under RTI in a month.
